Representative Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) has emerged as the frontrunner in the upcoming Republican primary for Colorado’s 4th Congressional District, securing the top spot on the ballot.

Local news outlets reported that during a session in Pueblo, Ms. Boebert, aged 37, garnered the highest number of votes from the Republican nominating assembly.

Republican candidates have several pathways to qualify for the primary ballot, including achieving at least 30 percent of the votes cast by the assembly, collecting sufficient petition signatures supporting their candidacy, or combining petition signatures with at least 10 percent of the assembly vote.

Although Ms. Boebert had already met the signature requirements, she opted to participate in the assembly, a move that proved fruitful as she received massive support.

About 40 percent of the 527 delegates voted in favor of Ms. Boebert, solidifying her position as the leading candidate on the primary ballot slated for June 25, following state law.

Expressing gratitude to voters after the assembly, Ms. Boebert emphasized her track record and unwavering commitment to her constituents. She assured supporters of her dedication to effectively representing Colorado’s 4th district.

Other candidates, such as former state Sen. Jerry Sonnenberg and state Rep. Richard Holtorf, also secured votes at the assembly and are expected to appear on the primary ballot pending approval of their petition signatures.

Former state Sen. Ted Harvey, who chose not to pursue signatures, failed to meet the required threshold and will not feature in the primary. Several candidates, including state Rep. Mike Lynch, are awaiting confirmation on whether they have met the signature threshold to qualify for the ballot.

Former Rep. Ken Buck‘s decision not to seek re-election has prompted Ms. Boebert’s bid for the 4th Congressional District seat despite currently representing the 3rd district.

Ms. Boebert’s candidacy has sparked debate, with opponents questioning her chances in the general election against a Democrat, given the district’s political landscape. However, Ms. Boebert remains resolute in her decision to run for the 4th district.

Despite undergoing surgery for a blood clot on April 1, Ms. Boebert attended the assembly and is expected to make a full recovery. Her campaign has assured supporters that her health will not impede her ability to fulfill her duties as a congresswoman.
