Republican Rep. Anthony D’Esposito introduced a House resolution condemning Joanne Chesimard, a Black Liberation Army militant also known as Assata Shakur, and those who support her actions.

Chesimard was convicted in the 1970s for the murder of a New Jersey State Trooper and linked to other killings of NYPD officers before escaping to Cuba, where she currently resides and is on the FBI’s Most-Wanted list.

D’Esposito’s resolution aims to urge the Biden administration to extradite Chesimard to the United States to face the consequences for her crimes. He criticized New York Democrat Rep. Jamaal Bowman for glorifying Chesimard by including her on a school’s “Wall of Honor,” stating that such actions promote an anti-law enforcement agenda.

D’Esposito also highlighted concerns about legislation from New York Governor Kathy Hochul and its impact on law enforcement, arguing that it restrains officers from effectively doing their jobs.

He praised New York City Mayor Eric Adams for speaking out against these policies and suggested that Adams aligns more with Republican views on law enforcement and sanctuary cities.
