Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) has vowed to proceed with a vote to oust Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), despite Democratic leaders announcing their support for him.

Greene made the announcement on social media platform X, stating that she would bring the motion to the floor regardless of Democratic leaders’ attempts to shield Johnson from a conservative coup.

Greene filed her motion to vacate the Speakership last month but has not yet specified when she plans to trigger a vote. However, with Democratic leaders pledging their support for Johnson, the motion is almost certain to fail.

Only two other GOP lawmakers, Reps. Thomas Massie (Ky.) and Paul Gosar (Ariz.), have backed Greene’s ouster threat, while several other hard-line conservatives have come out against the effort, warning that it could plunge the House into chaos.

Former President Trump, who has been close to Greene, has also offered support to Johnson on several occasions in recent weeks. Despite this, Greene remains determined to bring her motion to the floor for a vote, stating that “Americans deserve to see the Uniparty on full display. I’m about to give them their coming out party!”

Greene’s frustration with Johnson has grown in recent weeks, particularly over his handling of a sprawling spending package and his support for Ukraine aid and warrantless surveillance powers. She has accused Johnson of being the “Democrat Speaker of the House” and speculated that he cut a deal with Democrats to win their support.

Johnson has rejected Greene’s claims, stating that there are no deals and that he is focused on getting the job done and passing legislation. He has also emphasized the need for a functioning Congress that works together to solve problems.

Despite the opposition, Greene remains committed to her cause, stating that she will give Democrats and Republicans the chance to vote for Johnson and “put Congress on record.”

Her vow to bring the motion to the floor for a vote comes after she declined to lay out a timeline for her ouster effort, leading some to believe that she would not follow through with her threat. However, her team has strongly rejected the notion that she is backing down, and Greene has made it clear that she will continue to fight for her America First agenda.
