Teen Wolf Season 7: The Rumors Suggest a Renewal, But The Show is Cancelled!

Fans were having high hopes when they finished watching season 6 of Teen wolf in the hope of seeing the cast again for another season. But it turns out that MTV has officially pulled the plug out of the Teen Wolf franchise. Recently there has been a rise in the number of claims that there will be another season for the wolf pack, which will mark the return of our favorite characters. But sadly, that is not the truth. After airing the last episode, MTV executives were only thinking about only one thing about the show, which is “The show has been canceled.” And then there have not been even slight sparks of them thinking about continuing the series. This confirms that there won’t be another Season for the MTV series Teen Wolf.

Teen Wolf: How it all Started

Scott McCall (Played by Tyler Posey), who was an awkward teen, was bitten by a werewolf named Alpha. After this, he had to adapt to live with his new identity of being a wolf in disguise who also has superpowers and by also handling his teenage problems along with dealing with many other problems (It has made into a tv series for a reason!) The show was based on the 1985 film of the same name starring Michael J. Fox. The show kicked off in 2011 with Tyler Posey playing the character, Scott McCall. Set in the town of Beacon Hills.

The lead cast included:

  • Tyler Posey as Scott McCall
  • Crystal Reed as Allison Argent
  • Dylan O’Brien as Stiles Stilinski
  • Tyler Hoechlin as Derek Hale
  • Holland Roden as Lydia Martin
  • Colton Haynes as Jackson Whittemore
  • Shelley Hennig as Malia Tate
  • Arden Cho as Kira Yukimura
  • Dylan Sprayberry as Liam Dunbar
  • Linden Ashby as Sheriff Noah Stilinski
  • Melissa Ponzio as Melissa McCall
  • JR Bourne as Chris Argent

Reasons for Cancelling the Show?

The biggest reason for the show being canceled could be the decline in the viewership of the show. Teen wolf ratings have been dropping steadily since when it peaked in season 3 was an average of 1.97 million viewers. Season 4 saw a slight drop in viewership with 1.61 million, which was still ok, but by season 5, the series saw a significant decrease to only an average of 1.07 million viewers.

By its final season, the viewership drastically dropped, with only less than half a million viewers on average. Compared to season 5, that’s down by 55% in viewers. It shows the possibility that the public was starting to lose interest in and where it was headed. This is so much devastating for a show in the show biz. In the end, it’s all about business, and money does matters here.

Another reason for the cancellation of the show could be because Mtv was shifting its focus from scripted tv shows to unscripted reality shows to take advantage of its growing audience, which preferred more to watch unscripted reality shows whose trend was in rising at that time.

The departure of several cast members in between the show may have also had something to do with fans losing interest in the show. Tyler Hoechlin, Colton Hayes, and Arden Cho, who all played prominent characters like Derek Hale, Jackson Whittemore, and Kira Yukimura, respectively, left their posts for various reasons. The show also had to deal with O’Brien’s injury while filming Maze Runner: The Death Cure, forcing them to use Stiles sparingly in season 6.

This wasn’t very pleasant for a lot of long-time Teen Wolf fans who were looking forward to seeing Stiles and Scott interact more in the final season. As the show was losing its essence eventually, The time fuelled the cancellation of the show by fuelling it by various other problems too. Let’s hope that we could one day see a reboot of our beloved series Teen Wolf anytime in the future. Till then, let’s enjoy our favorite show’s all 6 seasons.
