Lamar Jackson was born on January 7, 1997, to Felicia Jones and Lamar Jackson Sr. He grew up financially poor in Pompano Beach, Florida. He went to public school with current Ravens teammate Marquis Brown. He was a standout quarterback at Vinton Beach High School and also attended Louisville High School as a running back. He won the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award, and Walter Camp Award in college and was a consensus All-American in 2016 at the University of Louisville. In 2016, he won the Lewis Game of the Year Award for his jump at the Syracuse Games. Jackson was also named the 2017 Adidas Athlete of the Year for his sophomore season, which Lewis won. He finished his college career with 9,043 passes, 69 touchdowns, and 4,132 yards.

Jackson remains close to his family and lives with his brother and mother in Maryland. Jackson lost his father at a young age. Jackson is currently in a relationship with student Jamie Taylor since 2017. Taylor has a one-year-old daughter.
