Anyone who has watched anime for long enough knows how a studio thinks, mostly. We don’t get the project’s second season greenlit until the numbers for season 1. The same is true for the Shield hero, however, what comes after was not expected. At Anime Expo 2019, the studio announces they will be doing season 2 as well s Shield Hero Season 3. It makes sense since the series, despite its controversies, managed to become the hit of the year. And thus, the hype for next season was high with people delving into manga and/or Light Novel to know the story further. Though that news was made in 2019, and we know what happened in the year after. The effect of covid-19 affects the performance of everyone and every industry. The anime industry was no different.
Japan was one of the few countries to recover from the chaos caused by the pandemic earlier than most. But with its damage done, all the projects were delayed in almost every field. Likewise, Shield hero season 2 and season 3 were also delayed. Another Isekai people were looking out for was Mushuko Tensei Season 2 which got delayed as well. And in the cycle of delays and pushing back the deadline, the schedule got messed up. But now that everything has been sorted, we got to see the second season without any delays. However, there were a lot of things that were set up at the end of the show that raised questions. And they are suggestions as to what is to come in season 3 of The Rising Of The Shield.
When will The Rising Of The Shield Hero Season 3 be released?
Earlier we had an on when season 3 of shield hero will release but we can’t tell anymore. Two studios are working on the Shield Hero franchise (Kinema Citrus and DR Movie) and neither has talked about the possibility. DR movie is a Korean-based animation studio that team up with Japanese companies for anime. On the other hand, Kinema Citrus works on their project most of the time and their schedule is available. By looking at their schedule we could not determine when season 3 of Shield hero would release. The studio has two animes that will be coming out in the summer of 2022. One of them is the highly acclaimed Made in Abyss, another is a light novel adaptation.

What to expect from The Rising Of The Shield Hero Season 3?
Out of all the stories out there, revenge plots are the ones people can relate to the most. There is something instinctual about going on rage against the things done wrong to you and punishing the conspirator. The story of the shield hero stood out above the rest because of how it uses the old setting and gives it a unique twist. Giving the protagonist a goal that was personal to him. Most of the Isekai’s are power fantasies with little to no personal stakes. Shield hero throws everything out of the window. Naofumi’s weapon is a shield so he can never attack, he can never become overpowered ( technically), and he is looked down upon. By subverting every expectation in the book, the story gave us a character that wasn’t a self-insert. This is why the story stood above the rest.
Naofumi, had some growth since he first came here. He is not as angry and trigger-happy as he used to be. His anger has calmed down a little and he has some resemblance of peace. But, the story put him to the test for it. The antagonist of the second season is the reverse of Naofumi, but the two are similar in many ways. Kyo is a sadist who thinks everything in the world is for his sake. Unlike Naofumi, he hasn’t grown past the point people are to be cherished. Meanwhile, Naofumi has found his self-worth by going to another world and his moment of being a hero as well.
Now that Kyo is dead who will be the villain in Season 3 of shield hero? We are given hint to as what threat is ahead of them but we do not know who the main antagonist is. All we know is Pheonix is the next divine beast coming their way. In the last episodes, we also see silhouettes of new characters in the slave trader’s shop. Perhaps Naofumi will be making new teammates in Shield Hero Season 3.
Where would The Rising Of The Shield Hero Season 3 stream?
Season 3 of Shield hero will likely stream at the OTT services it had before. The series gained traction in just two episodes, leading to many of the popular OTT services licensing the anime. Crunchyroll, Netflix, and Hulu are the way to go if you want to update yourself on what went down. It is also very likely that the same streaming sites will license Shield Hero season 3. If you are in Japan, the previous season might be rerun on AT-X, Tokyo MX, TVA, KBS, SUN, TVQ, and BS11. The Rising Of The Shield Hero Season 3 should return on the network mentioned above.
What is The Rising Of The Shield Hero about?
Rising of the Shield Hero starts as Naofumi is transported to another world while reading a random book in his college Library. Excited about the prospect of being transported to another world, he is enthralled and wants to live out the fantasy of the chosen one. He is not the only one. However, he meets three more people summoned just like him. He learns that the world is not filled with fantastic journeys but corrupted people with schemes. As Naofumi loses his good name and is ridiculed for the crime he didn’t commit, he must face obstacles to keep himself alive and recruit allies that make up for his lack of strength.
