Unlike other anime, Bubble Anime movie is not an adaptation of a pre-existing, rather, it’s an original put forth by creative assembled under Wit Studio. Wit Studio is the producer of the series, while Netflix is the one who provided funding for the project. The story of Bubble takes place in an abandoned Tokyo with gravitational abnormalities and overflowing with bubbles. The story starts when a gifted young man meets a mysterious young girl. Bubble anime movie contains a unique mix of genres; it has Sci-Fi, Drama, Fantasy, and Teen love story. And not only that, there are multiple characters in it each with their own story and outlook on life.
The talent behind the project is solid. But at times it is seen as lip service to sell a product, as we have seen so many big-name projects with high profile people attached to them, only to see a lackluster story in the end. Luckily it is not the case here, the film had screenings at the Berlin International Film Festival during the month of February. The reception was overwhelmingly positive adding more hype as well as credibility to the team behind the project. And the best part is, it doesn’t matter what audience you fall into you will find pure joy in this movie. Anime movies have been cut above the rest in storytelling, and with the likes of Gen Urobachi and Tetsuro Araki.
Bubble Anime Movie
Bubble anime movie is set in a fictional world of Tokyo where the broken laws of gravity allow people to parkour freely and far. This ability to reach far and farther had made Tokyo hard to manage, leading to residents leaving the place. A minority of people have stayed behind and found freedom in doing parkour.
The setting and world in unique colors are unlike what we have seen anywhere. Each year Japanese animation keeps getting better and better, and Bubble anime movie seems to carry the tradition. But that is surface-level cuteness. Whenever Gen Urobochi is involved you can bet things will get dark as the story progresses. He had earned his fame from 2011’s hit Puella Magi Madoka Magica. That story is about Magical girls fighting witches and saving the world. The surface premise falls apart pretty quickly and the grim realities and horrors of being a magical girl surface.
The Movie Director Tetsurō Araki is also a high-profile figure, having been part of many awe-inspiring and successful projects. He has directed Attack on Titan as well as Death Note. Just to name a few.
With those two combined and the movie being under Wit Studio, which has given great quality anime time over time, Bubble Anime movie might be the anime of the year.
