Kaguya-sama Season 3: Preview and Recap

Kaguya-sama Season 3

Kaguya-sama: Love is War is a rom-com manga series written and illustrated by Aka Akasaka. It was adapted into a 12 episode anime by A-1 pictures, which aired between January and March 2019, and a 12 episode second season was released between April and June 2020. It was even adapted into a live-action film as well. Now, the Kaguya-sama Season 3 is also in production.

In Shuchiin Academy, the student council president Miyuki Shirogane and vice president Kaguya Shinomiya seems to appear to be a pitch-perfect couple on the surface. Kaguya is the daughter of a wealthy family, while Miyuki is a topper at the school and is well known amongst everyone. Although they both like each other, the problem is that they are too proud to confess their feelings for each other, so they come up with different schemes to get the other to confess.

The main voice actors of the anime include Aoi Koga, Makoto Furukawa, Konomi Kohara, Ryota Suzuki, Miyu Tomita and Yumiri Hanamori. The supporting cast includes Momo Asakura, Taku Yashiro, Kana Ichinose, Sayumi Suzushiro, Takehito Koyasu, Ari Ozawa, Rina Hidaka, Haruka Fukuhara, Madoka Asahina and Ayaka Asai.

Recap of the Season 2 finale

The principal needs the student council’s aid to model for the Academy pamphlet. Unfortunately, Kaguya breaks her flip phone, losing the photos that she had been taking. Hayasaka and Kaguya realize that the photos are irrecoverable, and Kaguya buys a new smartphone. The student council sees that Kaguya still feels down, and Shirogane decides to create a group chat where they upload and share the photos taken of the group with Kaguya’s new smartphone.

Later, Fujiwara wants to play a game where they can pump the balloon as much as they want, but they have to pump it at least once, and if the balloon bursts, then they lose. Shirogane and Kaguya try to maintain their composure and rely on their tactics again. Ishigami’s character development proves to be for nothing before the fear of the giant balloon popping. Iino is easily manipulated into constantly pumping the balloon to the point of bursting it. Shirogane fails to live up to his father’s expectations that he would become the kind of man who protects his loved ones and backs out of pumping the balloon to spare Kaguya. Fujiwara then starts peeling a mikan, causing the balloon to pop when its juice landed on the balloon.

The bursting of the balloon leads to an out-of-the-place credits sequence where the Academy is destroyed.  Despite that, Shirogane and Kaguya continue to scheme, finding ways to force each other to confess their feelings as the season ends.
