Issa said that she is grateful for all the support that she’s been getting for years for the show, and she has been planning to run the series for 5 seasons and feels blessed to bring an end to her character’s story on screen.
HBO confirmed in its line up of movies and series from 2021-2022 that the 5th season will arrive sometime in 2021. It was told that the production for Season 5 would start sometime in January, and the final season would release later in the year. Rae confirmed that Season 5 would come out later in 2021 and filming would start in November 2020, but the filming got delayed due to the pandemic. Season 5 was confirmed in May 2020, just weeks into the 4th season. The announcement was dropped online on social media by the official account.

The season was written during quarantine, and the meetings for the future of season 5 were done via video chat between Prentice Penny and Natasha Rothwell. The cast and crew had a table read via Zoom chat just like Issa Rae had shown on her social media, along with the scripts from the first few episodes. While the filming and production will be socially distanced, sadly, Rae is planning on making an episode based on COVID or social distancing.
How did the 4th season end?
The finale episode ended with Lawrence and Issa getting back together, but Lawrence revealing that his ex is pregnant with his child. The fans were left unsure if it means that they would break up again or stay together and get through this. Lawrence’s actor even explained that the scene was intentionally vague and was left up to debate for fans to guess.
It even seemed like Molly and Andrew have ended their relationship. It also showed Issa and Molly’s friendship is strained. After a slew of tensions and arguments between them, they finally had a sit-down and had a talk to think things through about their friendship. She mentions that they will be forever changed by this and will become even closer, and they will explore the road of what will it be like to be on a new path of what their friendship is now. There are even rumors that we might see more of Issa and Nathan together.
When will Insecure Season 5 release?
The filming for the 5th season was supposed to start in November 2020, but due to the pandemic, the filming will now start sometime in January, meaning that the 5th season will now come out sometime in late 2021. All the episodes are now available to stream on HBO Max.
