Prodigal Son: Season 1 and Season 2 So Far

Prodigal Son

When there’s something that links you to your dark past, you try to get rid of any traces or threads that hold you back to it. You want to cut off ties with every moment you’ve experienced back then, but it keeps coming back to you, sooner or later. It makes it hard for you to breathe in the air of moderation. But what if the past you’ve been running all your life from comes and stands at your doorstep one morning? Well, aren’t we all thinking about ‘Prodigal Son?’

Created by Chris Fedak, ‘Prodigal Son’ is a police procedural crime drama series that made its debut in September 2019 by airing its first episode. In May 2020, the show was renewed for a second season that premiered its first episode on 12 January 2021 and aired an episode on a weekly basis. The second episode will hit the screens on 19 Jan 2021.

The show centers around Malcolm Bright, who hates remembering his childhood for the fact that his father, Martin Whitly, was a serial killer, and he was the one who got him arrested. Whitly was charged with the murder of 23 women. Bright, initially intrigued by his father’s wit, used to visit him. But eventually, after his graduation, he decided to stop, and it’s been 10 years since the father and the son have come face to face. But now Malcolm, owing to his service in the New York Police Department, has to keep confronting his father yet again, after a serial killer uses Whitely’s killing methods. Both of them use his killer insights to catch the person who is committing horrifying crimes.

Season 2 Episode 1 and Sneak peek into Season 1 Finale.

In the finale of its debut season, we witness that it was Ainsley and not Malcolm, who has inherited her dad’s tendency for murder. Ainsley ends up brutally killing Nicholas Endicott, portrayed by Dermot Mulroney. As the second season kicked off, she has no memory of how she stabbed him. Eventually, we see flashbacks where Ainsley is covered in blood and approaching her brother in despair. She has no clue as to what has happened, and in a state of total agony, she asks him what just took place and why she is covered in blood.

A still from the show

Seeing her sister in a state of panic and so scared, Malcolm quickly lies that he is the one who killed Endicott. His dad then guides him as to how to get rid of the dead boy by disposing of it. After all the series of events and in his attempt to protect his sister, Malcolm’s trauma worsens. He begins to have nightmares, and his mental situation degrades. Besides this, an unrelated story is also told in the second episode that is directly related to the police brutality issues and narrates real-life incidents of people’s take on it and support for the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement. The story follows JT, who is attacked by the cops. Now Bright’s life is puzzled because he has to balance everything up. From protecting his sister to keeping his mother away from a secret that will tear his family. From fighting his own personal trauma to solving the crimes, he has a lot of things going on. Please tune in to join Bright in his journey on FOX.
