Jamyren Richard, a 23-year-old resident of Raceland, Louisiana, received his sentence on February 29, 2024, after pleading guilty to two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, as prohibited by Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924(a)(2).
According to court records, Richard was a passenger in a vehicle stopped by the Harahan Police Department on March 26, 2021. During the traffic stop, officers discovered two loaded firearms inside the vehicle, which Richard admitted to possessing.
Another incident occurred on June 15, 2021, when Richard was observed fleeing from a vehicle pursued by the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office.
While fleeing, Richard carried a semiautomatic rifle and entered a female’s home, where he hid the rifle under the master bed mattress. Richard later admitted to possessing three firearms, knowing he had a prior felony conviction.
For both counts of felon in possession of a firearm, Richard was sentenced to 77 months in prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release, and was required to pay a $200 mandatory special assessment fee.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence by bringing together law enforcement and communities.
The Department of Justice launched a violent crime reduction strategy on May 26, 2021, strengthening PSN by fostering trust in communities, supporting violence prevention efforts, setting enforcement priorities, and measuring results.
The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Harahan Police Department, and the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Lynn E. Schiffman of the Narcotics Unit handled the prosecution.
