A new survey from Emerson College Polling/The Hill has revealed a crucial snapshot of the 2024 presidential race, showcasing former President Trump’s slender lead over President Biden in seven pivotal battleground states. This development comes as both candidates gear up for a fiercely contested rematch of their 2020 showdown.

Trump’s advantage in these critical states is characterized by modest single-digit margins, hovering within the surveys’ margin of error. His strongest performance is observed in North Carolina, where he enjoys a five-percentage-point lead (47% to 42%). Arizona follows closely, with Trump holding a four-point edge (48% to 44%).

In Georgia and Wisconsin, Trump’s lead narrows to three points (47% to 44%), while in Pennsylvania, his advantage stands at two points (47% to 45%). Michigan presents the tightest contest, with Trump clinging to a one-point lead (45% to 44%).

Spencer Kimball, Executive Director of Emerson College Polling, offered insight into the evolving dynamics: Since November, things have stayed pretty much the same in swing states. Biden has done better in Georgia and Nevada, but Trump is still a bit ahead.

When undecided voters are factored in, Trump’s position strengthens in select states. His lead expands to four points in Michigan, Arizona, and North Carolina, and to three points in Wisconsin and Georgia. The inclusion of third-party candidates also appears to benefit Trump, particularly in Georgia, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

As both candidates solidify their nominations, the stage is set for a high-stakes rematch. With polling averages indicating a razor-thin race, the importance of these battleground states cannot be overstated. Trump’s ongoing criminal trial in Manhattan, related to a 2016 hush money payment, adds an unprecedented layer of complexity to the election narrative.

Despite this, a majority of Republicans in the surveyed states assert that a guilty verdict would only bolster their support for Trump in 2024. This sentiment is juxtaposed with the plurality of voters across all seven states, who deem the trial a necessary accountability measure for the former president.

The Emerson College Polling/The Hill surveys, conducted between April 25-29, engaged 1,000 registered voters in each state, with a credibility interval of plus or minus 3 percent. As the election season reveals, these findings will undoubtedly serve as a crucial benchmark for tracking the ebbs and flows of the 2024 presidential contest.
