Production of the Show

Empire was picked up by Fox as a series order for its 2014–15 schedule on May 6, 2014. It was announced on November 19 in the year 2014, that the pilot episode of Empire would air by January 7, 2015.
The executive producers of the show are Francie Calfo, Danny Strong, and Brian Grazer. The scriptwriter of the show is Danny Strong, who is also one of the executive producers of the show, as mentioned earlier.

Now you all might be familiar with the name Lee Daniels. Yes, he doesn’t need an introduction, but I am giving one just in case. He is an Academy Award nominee for Best Director. His debut project was Monster’s Ball (2001), for which Halle Berry won an Oscar. Empire is the first TV show directed by Lee Daniels. Strong attributes the show’s influence to William Shakespeare’s King Lear and James Goldman’s The Lion in Winter. She also said that she got a lot of inspiration from ABC’s prime-time soap opera Dynasty.

Empire Cast

Firstly we have Terrence Howard starring as Lucious Lyon, né Dwight Walker. Lucious, who was once a drug dealer, is now the CEO of Empire Entertainment and a hip-hop tycoon. Lucious is diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and it seems he has only 3 more years left. His main love interest in the show is Cookie. Cookie is played by Taraji P. Henson, who is the wife of Lucious and also mother to his three sons. She spent 17 years in jail for drug dealing, taking the fall for Lucious. When she returns back from jail, she set on getting back her share of Empire Entertainment back from Lucious. 

Lucious and Cookie’s youngest son Hakeem Lyon is played by Bryshere Y. Gray. In the beginning, he is rude towards his mother, but eventually, he gets closer to her. Hakeen is his dad’s favorite and a hip-hop artist in the rising. He has various love interests throughout the show and is married to Maya by Season 6.  Jussie Smollett stars as Lucious’s second son Jamal Lyon. He is his mother’s favorite, but his relationship with Lucious is estranged. Jamal also has a good relationship with his brother Hakeem. He is a singer-songwriter and is also gay. We didn’t see Jamal in the 6th season of Empire because Smollet made a false police report about two men assaulting him. 

The eldest son of the Lyon Family is Andre Lyon, whose character is portrayed by Trai Byers. He is well educated and yearns for more power. He is married to college sweetheart Rhonda at the beginning of the show. She dies later on, and in season 5, he gets married to Teri. We also have Grace Byers as Anika.

Empire Finale Recap

At the beginning of the episode, we see Lucious and Cookie teaming up against rivals Kelly Patel and Giselle Barker in order to gain control of the Lyon music business. Andre is discharged from the hospital but is still not over the separation from his wife and son. He has decided to go on a church mission in South America despite Cookie’s best efforts to make him stay. That is when Hakeem comes into the picture. He persuades his brother to stay and try to create a relationship with his son.

As the episode continues, we see Hakeen, Becky and many other characters getting their happy ending. Throughout the episode, we get to see glimpses of Cookie and Lucious’s relationship from the beginning. Lucious plans to escort Yana, a rising singer. Even though Cookie and Lucious decide to go on different paths, Yana knows that Lucious still have love left for Cookie in his heart.  Certain events unfold, and Damon misreads a hug that Yana and Lucious shared. He ends up shooting at them, and Yana is hit by the bullet and dies. 

Lucious fears that Damon is going to get and tries to cancel the premiere of ” The Birth of an Empire” but his family doesn’t let him do that. He decides to strike Damon first, and the two fight in Damon’s kitchen. Lucious end victorious ends Damon by hitting him on his head with Lucious’ prosthetic leg. In the end, we see the Lyons together at the premiere of the movie, declaring that “It is our family’s night”.

Will there be an Empire Season 7?

Ever since the 6th season ended, fans have been dying to watch more episodes of the show. The sixth season of the show, which was originally supposed to have 20 episodes, had to be cut short because of the spread of the coronavirus. So, the season had come to an end with only 18 episodes. The creator of the show Lee Daniels that they were “heartbroken” for not being able to shoot the finale they originally planned. This made fans wonder whether there will be a 7th season.

So, Will there be an Empire Season 7? Well, to put it simply, No, there won’t be an Empire Season 7. But don’t be disappointed, because there is some good news. It was announced in July 2020 that a spin-off series starring Taraji P. Henson is in development. It was originally supposed to air in 2020, but Fox wasn’t enthusiastic about airing it. On December 14, 2020, it was reported that this new spin-off would be coming to Hulu and ABC instead of Fox.

All we know about the Empire Spin-Off

The Empire Spinoff is going to be focused on Cookie’s character. We will get to see what happens next in Cookie’s life after the finale of Empire. The show will portray Cookie’s life as she moves to Los Angeles.  When asked about the show, Taraji P. Henson said that they had taken a break from the shoot so that the show gets the script that it deserves. That sounds about right! After the hurried ending that Empire got, fans deserve a spinoff with an incredible plot. It also seems that the show will not be airing anytime soon. As Taraji had to say, absence makes the heart grow fonder. 

We believe that some of the cast members from the Empire other than Taraji P. Henson will also show up in the spin-off. Now, let’s put aside the cast for a while. Let us talk about the crew.
